Is Blogging Worth It in 2021?

People see successful bloggers, YouTubers, and other types of influencers and always think they’ve missed the boat. They think it’s too late for them to get a piece of the pie and start their own online business. So in this article I’m just going to discuss the question: is blogging still worth it?

Is blogging still worth it in 2021?

In my opinion, now is a better time than any in history to start a new blog and become a blogger. So yes, blogging is absolutely still worth it. But it’s not all roses and sunshine. It’s hard work, and most fail at it.

There are so many upsides to blogging such as:

  1. You set your own schedule
  2. You decide how much and when you get paid
  3. You have freedom of time
  4. No more boss looking over your shoulder
  5. Take a vacation whenever you want for as long as you want

With those things in mind, there are also some new things you’ll have to get used to like:

  1. You’re responsible for paying quarterly taxes
  2. No company health insurance
  3. No more 401k or 401k match
  4. You’ll need to schedule your time
  5. More responsibility and maybe liability

How long does it take to be a successful blogger?

I guess we have to define success. For me, the definition of success kept changing. At first I just wanted to be able to help with some of my bills.

However once I got a taste of what was possible with making money online in this way, I wanted nothing less than to be my own boss. I wanted complete freedom, in terms of time and finance.

It took me about 2 years to get to a point where I was making enough to replace my salary at my day job. Even once I hit that milestone, I stuck around my job for another 6 months to make sure that the money was steady.

During those 6 months, the money from my blogs kept increasing a little bit each month.

Until the holiday season came and it really exploded. That’s how it happened for me, and it was a lot of hard work. Imagine a second full time job that you work on nights and weekends for 2 years straight.

But that second full-time job will eventually replace your desk job, or manual labor job. It’s a means to an end, and a more comfortable and financially stable life.

It certainly wasn’t easy, and it seems like it took forever. But it was worth it for me.

It may take longer for you, you may do it sooner, or if you don’t have the work ethic or ambition you may never reach that full-time income goal. Everyone’s journey is different.

What if I don’t know what to blog about?

People get hung up on this part way too much, and it’s really so simple. All you have to do is choose something, and go for it.

Ideally you want to choose something that you’re interested in, or even are knowledgable about would be better. You certainly do not have to be an expert or an authority.

The important part is that you choose something and take the first step. If your excuse is that you don’t know what niche to choose or that you don’t know what to blog about, then you have another problem.

Choosing the niche is the easy part. I have about a dozen niche sites currently. My problem is that I have too many ideas for niche sites.

The hard part should be building up the base of content and making a profitable business over the course of months or even years.

In a nutshell, here’s what you need to do

  1. Choose a niche that aligns with your own interests.
  2. Register a domain for that niche, something broad and brandable.
  3. Get your hosting.
  4. Install WordPress.
  5. Start finding topics to write about.
  6. Begin publishing content.
  7. Learn from your mistakes and successes.
  8. Learn from other bloggers, network.

But whatever you do, do not get paralyzed about what niche to choose or some other beginning step. You have to just make a choice and take the leap.
